The Patience of Clay
A full day from Shanghai follows Yixing clay from studio judgement to kiln and tea, with lunch and later delivery of any agreed guest-made piece.
Prepared by Serica

The day begins early with private ground transport or a rail-and-car connection from Shanghai. At the studio, two teapots sit side by side on the worktable. The artist turns them over, explains why one will continue and why the other will return to the clay, then shows how proportion, drying and firing affect the final object.
Guests observe the morning work and handle sample clays while an interpreter keeps technical language clear. If the practitioner agrees, each guest can make one modest form under guidance; participation is confirmed before arrival and never assumed. Serica arranges the studio appointment, transport, interpretation and any photography or purchase protocol around the maker's working rhythm.
Lunch nearby uses local ingredients and leaves time for the conversation to continue away from the workbench. The afternoon may include a kiln or material visit and a quiet tea by the lake before departure. The complete programme takes approximately ten to twelve hours from Shanghai, with rest stops and pace adjusted to the party.
Any guest-made piece stays in Yixing to dry and fire on the studio's timetable. Serica follows the result, confirms packing and international or domestic delivery where feasible, and explains that cracking or variation remains part of the material process rather than something that can be guaranteed away.
The day makes the finished teapot, the discarded form and the waiting kiln parts of one understandable process rather than isolated objects.

Serica builds the full day around the guest's interest in clay, collecting or making, then coordinates the practitioner, route, meals, interpretation and follow-up delivery. Studio access, hands-on participation, purchases and firing schedules are agreed individually and may change with the maker's availability.
